Westcoast Vegetables started with a single 18.4-acre cucumber greenhouse in Delta, BC. Twenty-five years later, the VanMarrewyk family is still building.
The original 18.4-acre greenhouse is built in Delta, BC, growing long English cucumbers — the crop the company still grows there today.
Ray and Ron VanMarrewyk take over the operation and build a second greenhouse — 17.6 acres — dedicated to sweet bell peppers.
A third greenhouse, 18.5 acres, is built and comes into production — bringing total growing space to roughly 54.5 acres across two Delta properties.
Westcoast Vegetables ships cucumbers and peppers to major retailers including Costco, Sam's Club, Walmart, and Loblaws, with distribution reaching from Western Canada to Southern California and east to Montreal.
Cucumbers and peppers don't want the same climate, so instead of compromising on either, Westcoast built a dedicated greenhouse for each — the original 1999 facility for cucumbers, and a second built in 2006 purely for peppers. A third followed in 2015 as demand from retail partners grew.
That structure is why the crops arrive consistent, harvest after harvest — each greenhouse tuned for exactly one thing.

Took over the original cucumber greenhouse alongside his brother Ray in 2006, and has helped grow the operation to three greenhouses since.
President since 2006. Ray hosted BC Premier David Eby at the farm to walk through Westcoast's 35-million-litre rainwater and greenhouse-runoff reservoir — part of the water infrastructure that keeps three greenhouses running through dry seasons.
